Hi , I’m Elisa Gianoncelli a tutor and published author from North London. I have been teaching since 1996 and I would like to share with you my experiences which I believe will help you obtain places in the best schools often via scholarship. I’m an ex grammar school teacher and can help you achieve a pass for grammar school wherever you live as I work online. But even if you don’t employ me as your tutor I am hoping my blog will give you advice on how you can help your child at home develop amazingly. My first tip is read ,read read ! Also that the best app when your child is small is reading to them on your lap ! Sharing the reading of a book really encourages a child to read regularly and creates an amazing bonding experience between parent / grandparent and child right up to the time of the 11 plus entrance exam. Also reading aloud brings a different understanding to the text in my opinion. It also enables the adult to check on vocabulary the child may not understand. It is vital a child learns the meaning of words as these words could come up in the verbal reasoning exam or the comprehension. I ask my pupils to jot down words they do not understand and when they get to the end of the chapter to use a dictionary to find out their meanings. This together with other techniques I use contribute to creating a confident child ready to combat the exam as if it were a game ! Each lesson for me has to be a wonderful experience because it’s a vital part of a child’s educational journey that extends way beyond the 11plus into their GCSE’s , A levels and degree. It’s important to keep your children up to date on current affairs. A good way to do that is with the help of Newsround, it’s a great programme for young children as it explains things carefully. It’s important children know who’s who in the world and what different parties represent. The American system is different to our own but get them used to using vocabulary like … democrats ,republicans and for our system the conservatives ,labour and reform to mention just a few. When you feel they are old enough let them watch the early news with you so you can explain what is happening. Special events should always be discussed and examined in my opinion as they just may encourage your child to move into a career you did not expect them to. Our kids today …

Hi everyone , Are our children being influenced by social media and the digital world we live in more than we think ? Can we bring in more of David Attenborough and the animal kingdom he so adores please? I use author Tok and when I go on tik tok I see kids dressed almost like adults dancing quite elaborate steps and sequences that must have taken ages to perfect. Is America correct in attempting to ban TikTok … will it happen ? More importantly will the UK do the same ? Can we please spend more time building Lego pirate ships and smugglers coves or build dance / art studios instead. Can we go for long country walks and try identify all the trees and flowers we see along the way ? Can we go out into our gardens , patios or balconies and plant some seeds and wait for them to develop into flowers … life is precious , nature is precious and the world we live in equally so. Lets make our country safe for our children please

Over two days shocking news has made most people fear letting their children go anywhere alone. Both incidents involved knives , a young child called Leo was murdered yesterday by other boys a little older than him but still children. He was never to go home again ! Today we were reminded of the Southport killings. Brutal facts emerged from the survivors and witnesses as to how three young girls happily dancing were fatally stabbed. All three never to go home again. The murderer at the time was under 18! What is happening. How can we stop knifecrime crime ? Should people / children under 18 commiting these terrible crimes remain anonymous ? I don’t think so. How can parents spot the signs apparently in the case of the Southport murderer the parents had notified the police about their concerns and his behaviour but nothing was done.
